PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

The Tableau Business Analyst plays a central role in delivering the organization’s “4R” data strategy — delivering the Right Information, to the Right People, at the Right Time, to support the Right Decisions. This role focuses on transforming Databricks data assets into high-quality analytical products (dashboards, scorecards, reports, AI-enabled insights, and visualizations) using Tableau. The ideal candidate combines expert-level Tableau development capabilities with strong business engagement skills and solid working knowledge of SQL. Familiarity with Python for data engineering and data manipulation within Databricks is considered a plus.

 

This role is vital to advancing our Data & Analytics Strategy implementation program, improving data literacy, championing self-service analytics, and ensuring trustworthy data is consistently delivered across the organization.

Responsibilities

Business Requirements and Data Gathering:

  • Partner with business stakeholders across all functional areas to identify analytical needs, KPIs, and desired outcomes.
  • Conduct discovery workshops, interviews, and data-walkthroughs to capture business requirements and translate them into functional dashboards and analytical products.
  • Participate in designing KPIs, metrics, and scorecards aligned with enterprise data definitions and the unified data framework.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring clarity, alignment, and business value

Tableau Analytics Design & Development

  • Serve as a Tableau subject matter expert, leveraging the full spectrum of capabilities:
    • Data modeling and data preparation in Tableau
    • Advanced calculations, table calcs, LOD expressions
    • Dashboard UX/UI design and data storytelling
    • Drill-down, parameterization, mapping, extensions, and Tableau AI features
  • Design, develop, and iterate on dashboards, scorecards, mobile analytics apps, and compelling visualizations.
  • Optimize reports for performance, usability, and adoption, ensuring solutions align with enterprise BI standards.
  • Deploy and support reports on multiple consumption platforms including mobile devices
  • Publish and maintain dashboards on Tableau Cloud/Server, following governance, certification, and lifecycle workflows.

Data Access, Integration & Data Quality

  • Connect Tableau to Databricks and other cloud data sources to build analytical datasets and extracts.
  • Write SQL queries for data exploration, validation, profiling, and transformation.
  • Apply data-cleansing and validation logic in alignment with the approved Unified Data Framework, data quality rules, and governance practices.
  • Collaborate with external data engineers/partners to improve pipelines, document data lineage, and ensure the Right Data is consistently available for analysis.

Analytics Platform Support, Governance & Best Practices

  • Support the execution of the Data & Analytics Strategy implementation roadmap in partnership with the Director IT, Data & Analytics.
  • Contribute to documentation including data dictionaries, functional specs, business definitions, and dashboard usage guides.
  • Ensure BI products adhere to SDLC and testing processes (UAT, regression, performance).
  • Support self-service enablement efforts, stakeholder training, and dashboard adoption.
  • Follow ITIL-aligned processes for incident response, enhancements, and root cause analysis.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Proven ability to collaborate with business stakeholders and translate their needs into high-quality analytical products.
  • Strong SQL skills for data exploration, data validation, joins, aggregations, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience connecting Tableau to Databricks (or similar platforms like Snowflake, Redshift, Synapse).
  • Strong analytical and discovery skills, with the ability to profile data, identify anomalies, and ensure accuracy.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and storytelling skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize in a dynamic environment.
  • Understanding of data warehouse concepts, MDM, and data quality frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Agile/SCRUM methodologies and working in sprint-based environments.
  • Experience with Data & Analytics SDLC best practices.
  • Proven knowledge of UX design and data visualization best practices.
  • Familiar with the main concepts and practices of Data Governance.
  • Experience working with Python for data manipulation or automation within Databricks is a plus.
  • Exposure to data ingestion from Salesforce CRM, Google Analytics, Accounting & Finance systems (Sage Intacct preferred), or similar operational data sources is a plus.

Work Experience:

  • The ideal candidate has expert-level Tableau development capabilities and 5+ years of hands-on experience building Tableau dashboards, scorecards, and other Tableau-based analytical solutions and can demonstrate strong business engagement skills and solid working knowledge of SQL.
  • Familiarity with Python for data engineering and data manipulation within Databricks is considered a plus.

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Formal Business Analysis training, such as:
    • IIBA-aligned coursework based on the BABOK Guide
    • Business Analyst certification programs
    • Requirements gathering, process analysis, or product ownership courses
  • Professional certifications (preferred):
    • IIBA ECBA, CCBA, or CBAP
    • Tableau Desktop Specialist /Tableau Data Analyst
    • Databricks Lakehouse Fundamentals or related cloud data certifications
    • Agile/SCRUM certification (PSPO, CSPO, CSM)

Work Environment: 

  • ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office.

Compensation: 

  • This position has a salary range of $110,000 to $135,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, NY, Washington, DC or Atlanta, GA. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
