Position Title: Research Assistant

Reports to: Associate Director, Research, Center for Tech and Society

Supervision Exercised: None

Location: Anywhere ADL has an Office 

Grade/Class: Grade C, Non-Exempt, Non-Union (Part-time, temporary role, at 20 hours per week, end date 10/1/2026)

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

The Center for Technology and Society (CTS) Research Assistant will conduct basic research into extremism, antisemitism, and hate online, including on social media, in LLM outputs and on online gaming platforms.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

  • Monitor, research, and evaluate large volumes of information from multiple sources pertaining to extremism, antisemitism, and hate.
  • Summarize relevant data and share with CTS staff and broader Center on Extremism staff and management
  • Assist in testing various AI tools on their safeguards related to extremism and antisemitism
  • Conduct regular evaluations of the trust and safety programs across multiple online gaming platforms.
  • Run research projects devised by CTS staff evaluating how various online platforms are addressing antisemitism and extremism.
  • Provide additional research support as requested on other issues dealt with by the Center for Technology and Society and the Center on Extremism.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Ability to process, understand, and summarize large volumes of information on a consistent basis;
  • Fluent understanding of the functioning of online platforms including, social media, LLMs and online gaming;
  • Facility with information management tools;
  • Understanding of taxonomies and the ability to categorize data accordingly;
  • Familiarity with SQL a plus.

Work Experience:

  • The ideal candidate has demonstrable years of experience with research and data entry.
  • Established familiarity with issues related to online antisemitism and extremism preferred.

 

Education:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience

 

Work Environment:

  • ADL is a hybrid environment although this role may be performed remotely.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours when necessary to complete work assignments

 

Compensation: 

  • This position has an hourly rate of $30 an hour. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
