Kulanu: Synagogues in Action Against Antisemitism is ADL's flagship congregational engagement network that involves over 400 participating synagogues across 38 states, DC, and Canada, with nearly 2,000 active participants. Kulanu, Hebrew for “all of us,” is designed to empower congregations to address antisemitism and hate in their communities through education, community engagement, and advocacy.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

The Director, Synagogue Engagement and Jewish Outreach (Director) will lead the pursuit and execution of collaborations between ADL and Jewish denominations, including managing Kulanu: Synagogues Against Antisemitism. The Director will also act as a key link between ADL and Jewish institutions and movements helping to strategize and coordinate ADL’s efforts in fighting antisemitism. The position involves programmatic leadership, ongoing partnership responsiveness, and innovative pursuit of ADL’s leadership, visibility and awareness via new channels and technologies.

Responsibilities

Primary:

  • Oversee the execution and exponential growth of Kulanu: Synagogues Against Antisemitism.
  • Develop program strategy to steward relationships with new and existing partnerships with religious movements at the national and if appropriate international level and incorporate ideas for continuous improvement and expansion of the Kulanu congregational network with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Design and implement innovative programming, engagement opportunities and content to strengthen ADL’s ties to diverse segments of the Jewish community while advancing goals to fight antisemitism and all forms of hate.
  • Respond to incidents and other inquiries shared with ADL by URJ, USCJ, and other denominations serving congregational communities in collaborations with other relevant teams across ADL.
  • Represent ADL at synagogue and other events as appropriate.

 

Secondary:

  • Convene inter-departmental working groups at ADL to coordinate synagogue partnership efforts across organizational functions.
  • Monitor the activities, statements and actions of Jewish congregational stakeholders and keep ADL’s leadership apprised of significant developments.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership team to develop thematic, programmatic and/or speaker ideas for the annual Summit and other events, as requested.

Work Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate has significant experience and can demonstrate an increase in skills, responsibility and leadership in organizations connected to community engagement, government affairs work dealing with relationships/partnerships or work in relationship-building capacity within the Jewish community or with community-based organizations.
  • Knowledge of Jewish landscape, including but not limited to synagogues and denominational movements, organizations and influential voices.
  • Experience and highly competent with backend work with online community platforms, Zoom meeting faciliation and database/CRM software, e.g. AirTable and Salesforce, significantly preferred.
  • Expereince working or volunteering in synagogue communities or Jewish adult education settings, a plus.

 

Education:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience required.

 

Work Environment:

  • Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends, as needed.
  • Occasional travel to attend meetings, conferences, and events.
  • ADL maintains a hybrid work environment; this role may require up to three days in person per week.

 

Compensation:

  • This position has a salary range of $120,000 to $135,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
