POSITION TITLE: Assistant Threat Analyst (Full-time/Temp)

REPORTS TO: Associate Director, Threat Monitoring, Center on Extremism

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None

LOCATION: Anywhere in ADL's Western Division (CA, WA, OR, NV)

Grade/Class: Grade C, Non-exempt, Non-Union. Temporary, full-time role through June 2026.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

The Assistant Threat Analyst will assist with monitoring, detecting, and responding to extremist, antisemitic, and other hate-driven threats and activities across the United States. Working within the Center on Extremism, the analyst will assist the Threat Monitoring Unit (TMU) with timely investigations into potential threats and emerging issues, and help develop written alerts, advisories, and other resources for various external partners and internal audiences. This position demands working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with detecting, tracking, and analyzing extremist, antisemitic, and other hate-driven threats and activities nationwide using a variety of tools and open source intelligence (OSINT) techniques.
  • Support the Threat Monitoring Unit in monitoring both mainstream and alternative social media platforms to help develop actionable intelligence for law enforcement and community partners.
  • Help maintain and update internal tools and systems used to identify and track threats across multiple social media platforms.
  • Contribute to the preparation of written alerts, advisories, and other resources for various external partners and internal audiences.
  • Provide research support to analysts, researchers, and embeds across COE teams.
  • Participate in training sessions, inter-agency exercises, and other professional development opportunities to stay informed about current trends and developments in extremism.
  • Note that this position will entail working outside of regular Monday to Friday 9-5:30 working hours, including weekends, responding to crisis situations and adhering to rotational work schedules.

Qualifications

Skills:  

  • Excellent analytical and research skills; strong familiarity with open-source intelligence (OSINT) techniques.
  • Excellent operational and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and act flexibly in response to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaborative settings and with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to operate in a fact-paced, intense environment.
  • Passion to join the fight against domestic extremism and hate.
  • Arabic language skills strongly preferred.

 Work Experience:  

  • The ideal candidate has experience researching extremism or related topics, internships included.
  • Proven track record of investigative research and analysis, with prior experience in OSINT techniques a big plus.
  • Familiarity with issues related to extremism, terrorism, antisemitism and hate.

 

Education:  

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Communications or related field, or equivalent experience, required.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Work Environment:
  • Flexibility to work evening and weekends needed.
  • ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may be performed remotely.

Compensation:

  • This position has the full-time equivalent yearly salary of $60,000 ($2,307 per two week pay period), reflective of a position in San Francisco, CA. This is a temporary, full-time role that will end on June 30, 2026. This salary is reflective of a role based in San Francisco, CA.  Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
