PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

The Director of Internal Communications will lead the development, execution and measurement of a comprehensive internal communications strategy that inspires, informs, and connects with our employees. This role involves optimizing internal communication channels to enhance employee engagement, supporting organizational change initiatives, and ensuring alignment between internal and external messaging. The Director will also design crisis communication protocols and provide strategic counsel to senior leadership, driving effective communication that inspires and connects our diverse workforce.  The Director must be flexible and adept at working quickly to meet tight deadlines, ensuring timely and effective communication across the organization.

Responsibilities

Primary:

 

Strategic Communications & Channel Optimization

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive internal communications strategy to address organizational challenges and drive employee experience and engagement.
  • Analyze existing communication channels and drive improvements to optimize effective cross-platform effective communications.
  • Create multi-channel communication framework optimizing reach and effectiveness while avoiding overload.
  • Develop talking points and other key messaging for internal staff for media, email, political, leadership, and other briefings.
  • Design internal crisis communications protocols and serve as on-call resource for emergency response.
  • Ensure all communications are delivered promptly, especially during high-pressure situations or tight deadlines.
  • Lead and innovate the company's intranet to enhance internal communication and increase engagement.

 

Cross Agency Internal Communications Support & Change Management:

  • Partner with project teams to ensure effective communication materials and successful adoption during rollouts.
  • Support senior leadership initiatives through strategic communications that enhance employee experience during organizational changes.
  • Lead communication planning for company-wide initiatives, including all staff calls and meetings and organizational announcements, including but not limited to logistics, content development, and CEO and other talking points.
  • Create project-specific communication plans with timelines, key messages, and internal communications success metrics.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in adapting communication strategies to meet evolving organizational needs and deadlines

 

Measurement & Collaboration:

  • Develop, monitor, and analyze communication metrics to measure effectiveness and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Brand & Marketing and Communications teams to ensure alignment and consistency across internal and external touchpoints.

 

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Support external communications efforts and social media alignment
  • Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on communication strategies

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with internal communications experience.
  • Strong leadership and influence capabilities with the ability to drive change without direct authority.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Expertise in communication channels and strategic thinking with analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in change management communications and crisis communication expertise.
  • Skills in data analysis and metrics development with technology proficiency.
  • Self-motivation, initiative, and a collaborative mindset focused on employee experience with discretion for sensitive information.

 

Experience Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate has significant years’ professional experience and can demonstrate progressive growth in skills and responsibility in Marketing, Communications or Strategy and experience in internal communications.
  • Prefer experience in large, complex, and distributed organizations.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, business administration, organizational development, or related field or equivalent experience required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Availability for emergency response, after-hours communications, and the flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Flexibility to travel for meetings and events, as needed
  • Proficiency in presentation software and communication platforms

Work Environment: 

  • ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office.

 

Compensation:

  • This position has a salary range of $80,000 to $131,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations. For an overview of our total rewards package, please visit https://www.adl.org/about/careers.
