Grade/Class: I, Exempt, Non-union

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

Reporting to the General Counsel, the SAGC will be responsible for handling complex tasks and projects to meet ADL’s legal and business objectives, while mitigating risk. The SAGC is expected to deliver legal advice creatively, cost-consciously and with top-level customer service.  The SAGC will also serve as the primary legal point of contact for certain departments and teams.

Responsibilities

Primary:

  • Independently provide counsel and advice on a broad range of legal matters, including advising on product/technology development, privacy issues, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, commercial contracts, and dispute resolution.
  • Serve as the first legal point of contact for JLens, Center for Technology & Society, Strategy & Operations, and Technology teams. The SAGC will work closely with these and other teams, proactively supporting their day-to-day work and providing direction as various legal issues arise.  
  • Shape regulatory and litigation approach by monitoring emerging regulatory and potential litigation risks and using that perspective to influence company policy and strategy.
  • Work closely with General Counsel to create, implement, and oversee systems and scalable processes from IP management to regulatory engagement, and litigation risk management
  • Draft and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts including partnership agreements, cause-marketing agreements, memorandums of understanding, terms & conditions, grant agreements, SaaS, master services, and consulting agreements.
  • Provide cross-organizational guidance by partnering closely with National Affairs, Regional teams, and Communications on key initiatives.
  • Assist in the management of defensive litigation, including but not limited to through the supervision of outside counsel and management of discovery efforts.

 

Secondary

  • Interface with other groups within the organization; be lead on assigned cross-functional relationships.
  • Demonstrate the ability to act independently to multi-task and to act flexibly in response to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrate the highest level of customer service.
  • Provide thoughtful counsel on risk mitigation, compliance requirements, create processes and workflows.

Work Experience:

  • Six plus years legal experience beginning with law firm experience followed by either in-house or government experience
  • Demonstrated experience supporting specific teams within a business or agency
  • Experience advising on intellectual property, technology, and privacy issues
  • Familiarity with financial regulations and/or employment laws preferred, but not required

 

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate degree required; undergraduate degree in any field

 

Work Environment:

  • ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office.  

 

Other:

  • Admission to a state bar in the United States and eligibility to be registered as an in-house counsel under NY law.

Compensation: 

  • This position has a salary range of $150,000 to $175,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
