REPORTS TO: Chief Engagement Officer 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Senior Director, Systems Strategy and Training; Senior Director of Donor Engagement, Senior Director of Philanthropic Operations

LOCATION: Anywhere ADL has an Office 

Grade/Class: Grade K, Exempt, Non-Union

PRIMARY FUNCTION: 

The Vice President, Philanthropic Operations and directs the strategy for ADL’s all centralized growth functions that support the ADL’s frontline development professionals. These functions include prospect research, analytics, portfolio and goal setting, development systems, gift processing, stewardship strategies, and philanthropic training and development. Additionally, this position oversees institutional giving.  

Responsibilities

Primary: 

 

  • Leadership and Management: Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all philanthropic operations functions in support of ADL’s overall vision and philanthropic direction. Ensure the development and implementation of best-in-class processes across the growth organizations. 

 

  • Vision and Strategy: Set long-term vision and strategy for ADL’s philanthropic operations team including:  
  • Gift Processing 
  • Prospect Research 
  • Analytics 
  • Stewardship  
  • Growth related systems and systems training 

 

  • Financial Management: Develop and oversee the budget for philanthropic operations and institutional giving.  
  • Collaboration and Partnership: Serve as a strategic partner to the VP of Philanthropic Giving to identify, develop and manage high quality centralized solutions to support frontline fundraising needs. Serve as key liaison between Growth and other support functions within the CSC (Finance, IT, T&K) to ensure cross-functional support and technology meet the needs of the frontline fundraisers. 

 

  • Training and Development: Develop and implement a centralized onboarding process as well as ongoing philanthropic training for the entire growth team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. 

 

  • Philanthropic Culture: Foster a strong culture of philanthropy throughout the ADL, both within the development team and across all functional areas of the organization. 

 

Secondary: 

  • Stewardship: Develop and implement segmented stewardship strategy.  
  • Annual Campaign: Collaborate with VP of Brand and Marketing to execute annual campaign efforts 
  • Gift Processing: Develop and operate best in class centralized gift processing system, eliminating the need for most processing activities within the field
  • Growth Systems: Design strategy, set standards, and oversee the growth team’s implementation of Salesforce and its aligned systems to ensure ADL maintains accurate records for all relevant donor information and engagement strategies 
  • Growth Analytics & Research: Work in collaboration with the VP of Philanthropic Giving and Senior Divisional Directors of Philanthropic Outreach to research and identify new donors, establish portfolios and provide tools to monitor and report on progress towards goals and metrics at the organization, division, region and  fundraiser level 
  • Institutional Giving: Oversee national foundation, family foundation, and corporate philanthropy fundraising strategy and implantation, providing direct support to regions for giving levels of $50,000 and above.

Qualifications

Skills: 

  • Significant leadership and management experience with success in building, retaining, motivating, and developing a high-performing team. 
  • Strong ability to regularly assess, streamline, and implement efficient processes in support of field fundraising.  
  • Substantial experience in driving collaboration throughout an organization. 
  • Ability to manage a diverse range of activities across a complex organization, setting priorities and supporting the successful achievement of goals. 
  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to utilize qualitative and quantitative data, stakeholder feedback, and industry trends to inform decision making and long-term planning. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively. 
  • Strong leadership and strategic planning skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective processes at scale. 
  • Commitment to the mission and values of ADL.  

Work Experience:   

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience with fundraising operations, preferably within a large national or global non-profit 
  • Experience overseeing and developing a multi-layer fundraising operations team. 

Education:   

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience is required. 

Work Environment: 

  • Willingness to travel as needed for meetings and events required. 

Work Environment: 

  • ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office. 

 

Compensation:

  • This position has a salary range of $210,000 to $225,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations. For an overview of our total rewards package, please visit https://www.adl.org/about/careers.
