LOCATION: San Francisco, California 

Grade/Class: Grade H, Exempt, PSA-Eligible

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

Serve as deputy to the Regional Director of Central Pacific Regional Office, assist in the administration of the office including office management, budget preparation, staff development and supervision. Assist the Regional Director in planning, developing and implementing advocacy initiatives, program activities, public relations and services in the community to advance ADL’s mission within the region. Undertake an area of special responsibility that encompasses the entire region. 

Responsibilities

Primary: 

  • Provide routine general office management. Oversee assigned regional program and development staff and the initiatives for which they are responsible.  Assist in the selection and supervision of interns. Ensure the smooth-functioning of the regional office in the absence of the Regional Director.  Assist in budget preparation and general office management.    
  • Respond to and resolve the most complex or sensitive complaints of antisemitic incidents and other extremist  issues.  Conduct and oversee in-depth fact-finding research.  Coordinate with Policy Counsel as appropriate.  Ensure that required reports and comprehensive incident tracking are maintained.  
  • Develop and implement community outreach including initiatives and joint ventures with elected leaders and diverse interfaith and cross-cultural organizations active within the region e.g. African-American, Hispanic and Latino groups / Muslim leaders, Catholic scholars and other faith leaders.   
  • Draft public statements including op-eds, social media and responses to media requests
  • Recruit, develop and support volunteer leaders at all levels. Work closely with board members and high-profile community leaders.  
  • Guide and mentor the Associate/Assistant Regional Director(s) by sharing experience of effective strategies and problem-solving approaches. Implement ADL programs and projects, tailoring them to local community needs and issues.    
  • Collaborate with team members in the broader Western Division and ADL at large to share solutions and create a unified brand for the ADL mission.  
  • Represent ADL and give speeches in a variety of forums to promote public awareness of ADL’s mission. Respond to inquiries from the media and from members of the public, demonstrating authoritative knowledge of ADL’s policies and positions and relevant local, national and world events. Read, monitor and respond to media reports and opinion articles.  
  • Undertake special projects and Divisional/cross-regional assignments as needed. 

Qualifications

Skills: 

  • High degree of tact and discretion.   
  • Proven diplomatic and conflict resolution skills are required.    
  • Excellent administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills are required.   
  • Proven ability to work with and influence a wide variety of people.   
  • Strong public speaking and writing skills are required.    
  • Ability to multi-task essential.  
  • Comfort in working with colleagues remotely across the country essential.   
  • Strong competency with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) required.   
  • Familiarity with WordPress, Salesforce, and social media platforms, or ability to adapt quickly to new technology platforms. 
      

Work Experience:   

  • Between five and six years of progressively responsible public affairs or external relations experience including program and operational management experience. 
     
     

Education:   

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required. 
  • Additional related courses or professional training welcomed. 

 

Work Environment: 

  • ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office. 

 

Compensation:

  • This position has a salary range of $105,000 to $140,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in San Francisco, CA.
