PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

The Grant Writer is a key member of ADL’s fast-paced development team. Major responsibilities include writing, editing, and managing the creation of compelling materials for donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, and ensuring that donors receive professional and timely information regarding the impact of their philanthropy.

Responsibilities

Primary:

  • Collaborate and partner across the organization in the pursuit of fundraising excellence and to achieve ADL’s overall fundraising goals.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of ADL programs and priorities and understand how they advance ADL’s mission.
  • Create and submit templatized proposals for solicitations under $50,000, including but not limited to: region-restricted funding and low-level corporate event and membership proposals.
  • Assist in maintaining a library of approved proposals for principal and major institutional funding opportunities.
  • Support the development and delivery of template proposals and donor reports for institutional donors emphasizing unrestricted and program-area grants, in support of ADL’s overall, principal and institutional giving fundraising targets. This includes proposals for a range of funding opportunities at $50,000 and above.
  • Research and write comprehensive impact reports for ADL’s top donors including individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Author customized principal donor communications and other template communications for principal and individual donors.

 

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Skillful writer and editor with the ability to deftly distill complex material for target audiences in a multitude of formats.
  • Evidence of the analytic and research skills needed to gather and determine essential data from a variety of written and individual sources.
  • Experience supporting major gifts fundraising and stewardship.
  • Willingness and ability to determine, manage, and quickly adjust priorities, demanding a high degree of multitasking and creativity.
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on a team.
  • Must be able to complete assignments working with minimum amount of supervision.
  • Ability to handle confidential materials with discretion and manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Solid computer skills in a PC environment with the capability to master new software applications and technologies in database management.
  • Excellent skills in the functional use of Excel and Word required.

 

Work Experience:

  • Professional writing experience in an organization or company in which their work products were intended for multiple audiences (individual and wide distribution).
  • Proven track record in the development of the tools and resources gift officers utilize to communicate impact to donors including acknowledgments, reports and proposals.
  • Ability to collaborate with staff and senior leadership, respond to multiple points of view, find consensus, and effectively communicate the organization’s vision.

Education:

  • Graduate of accredited four-year college with a degree in Journalism, Communications, or related discipline or equivalent professional experience.

Work Environment:

  • ADL is a hybrid environment, though this role may be performed remotely. 

Compensation:

  • This position has a salary range of $60,000 to $80,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York.
