POSITION TITLE: Vice President, Center for Technology and Society 

REPORTS TO: Senior Vice President and Chief Impact Officer 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: CTS team distributed across the country 

LOCATION: Anywhere ADL has an office; New York, NY, Washington, D.C., or San Francisco, CA preferred  

Grade/Class: Grade K, Exempt, Non-Union

PRIMARY FUNCTION: 

 

ADL is seeking a Vice President for the Center for Technology and Society to lead ADL’s effort to make digital spaces free from antisemitism and hate. The Center produces cutting-edge research, engages with social media and other tech companies, and advocates publicly to enhance efforts to address online antisemitism and hate. 

Responsibilities

Primary: 

  • Direct a leading center for research, thought leadership, and advocacy for fighting antisemitism and hate in the digital environment. 
  • Refine and execute strategy to address antisemitism and hate on not only traditional social media platforms and products, but also gaming, virtual reality, and generative artificial intelligence. 
  • Develop research and analysis priorities and ensure execution with internal partners. 
  • Directly engage with technology industry leaders and convene individuals and organizations that are working to combat "cyber-hate" and related problems. 
  • Partner with other parts of the organization to design and support tech policy advocacy goals. 
  • Communicate with the media and educate lawmakers directly including publishing informative and analytical pieces on emerging tech topics relevant to fighting online hate. 
  • Network with and develop strong partnerships with industry, academia, civil society organizations, government, and other key stakeholders/influencers, including tech companies or policy centers working in relevant areas. 

Qualifications

Skills:  

  • Deep understanding of relevant legal and policy issues related to online antisemitism and identity-based hate, including harassment, hate crimes, and disinformation. 
  • Knowledge of current and emerging and interactive new media (tech) landscape, both its potential as a tool for social good and its problems as a medium and culture. 
  • A visionary leader with demonstrated success in setting ambitious goals and inspiring those around them to achieve. 
  • Ability to build and oversee teams in a distributed organization. 
  • Strategic business planning experience balancing innovation and fiscal prudence. 
  • Experience with change management, upgrading staff skills and driving accountability. 
  • Strong work ethic with a track record of delivering results in high pressure situations. 
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain relationships at the grassroots and senior executive levels. 

 

Work Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate has demonstrable expertise working on technology or related issues, such as technology policy or trust and safety on social media, and measurable experience leading and developing a team 

 

Education:  

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. 

 

Work Environment: 

  • ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office. 

 

Compensation:

  • This position has a salary range of $190,000 to $225,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York, New York.
