SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assist in supervising program staff and interns, including contributing to their hiring, training and evaluation. May directly supervise one or more support staff.

The Associate Regional Director for the ADL Southeast Region assists with the planning, development and implementation of advocacy initiatives, program activities and community outreach strategies to advance ADL’s mission within the region.  This role manages the Region’s incident response and legislative advocacy outreach and supports the day-to-day activities of ADL programs in the region which, in addition to incident response and legislative advocacy, may include some or all of the following: investigative research, interfaith and multicultural outreach, law enforcement training, civil rights advocacy, discrimination complaint responses, Jewish institutional security training, leadership development, public relations, events planning, social media outreach and fundraising. The Associate RD provides staff support to assigned regional committee(s) and may assist the Regional Director and Deputy Regional Director with office operations.  



  • Respond to and resolve complaints of discrimination, antisemitic incidents and other civil rights issues. Conduct in-depth fact-finding research, initiating contacts and developing sources as appropriate. Coordinate with ADL’s Civil Rights Area Counsel as appropriate. Ensure that required reports and comprehensive incident tracking are maintained.  
  • Develop and implement community outreach including initiatives and joint ventures with elected leaders and diverse interfaith and cross-cultural organizations active within the region e.g. African-American, Hispanic and Latino groups/Muslim leaders, Catholic scholars and other faith leaders. 
  • Drive government affairs activities, maintaining regular contact with state, local and national officials. Advocate for ADL issues in state and local legislature. 
  • Implement ADL programs and projects throughout the Region, tailoring them to local community needs and issues. Manage education and human relations programming such as Hate Crimes Education. Conduct training sessions as needed for attorneys, law enforcement agents, and students. 
  • Recruit, develop and support volunteer leadership at all levels. Provide staff support and programming to volunteer-led committees, which may include Civil Rights, Nominating, Executive, and others as assigned. 
  • Represent ADL and give speeches and presentations in a variety of forums to promote public awareness of the organization’s work and mission. 
  • Respond to inquiries from members of the public, demonstrating a working knowledge of ADL’s policies and positions and relevant local, national and world events, and assist the Regional Director and Deputy Regional Director to respond to inquiries from the press. 
  • Monitor online and print news and information portals for relevant coverage, and identify public relation opportunities through both traditional and new media platforms. 
  • In collaboration with the Deputy Regional Director and broader Divisional team, proactively pitch news stories and features to the media. Coordinate interviews and media response on breaking new issues as needed.
  • Draft and edit regional newsletters or prepare Insider Briefings as requested. 


  • May schedule appointments and speaking engagements, coordinate meetings and conference calls, and make travel arrangements as requested. 
  • May provide administrative support for special events, board retreats and coordinate regular board meetings. Undertake all necessary details of event logistics; reserve location, negotiate contracts, plan menus, arrange set up, mail invitations and monitor reservations.
  • May maintain supplies of ADL literature and respond to requests for materials. 
  • Participate in fundraising events, cultivate potential donors and assist in maintaining donor relationships.   



  • Strong administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills required. 
  • Proven ability to work with and influence a wide variety of people.  
  • Proven diplomatic and conflict resolution skills are required.   
  • Strong public speaking and writing skills are required.   
  • Knowledge of local, national, Jewish and Israeli press a must. 
  • Demonstrated experience creating digital content with analytics across various platforms: social media, email, mobile and the web essential. 
  • Experience in, and familiarity with, a wide range of print and digital media strongly preferred. 
  • Knowledge of issues of concern to ADL and the Jewish community preferred. 
  • Strong competency with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) required.  
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task to complete projects on deadline.

Work Experience:   

  • Three to five years of progressively responsible human relations or community service experience required, including program and/or operational management experience. 
  • Knowledge of legislative processes and strategy required. 


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required. 
  • Additional related courses or professional training welcomed. 

Work Environment:  

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary to represent ADL and to attend community events. Some travel within the region.

ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office.


  • This position has a salary range of $50,000 to $71,750. This salary range is reflective of a position based in Atlanta, GA. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
